Last pic of the Columbia Ice Fields and a couple fun facts. It's the largest accumulation of ice south of the arctic circle. Its 1957 meters or 6500 feet above sea level. The meltwaters flow to the Pacific, Atlantic and Arctic oceans. And the hwy. was built between 1931-1940 by the Canadian Government and unemployed workers were paid 20 cents per day using picks shovels and horses. Saw a cool old steam locomotive in Jasper Alberta today. Some interesting stats. Built in 1923 in Kingston Ontario. It's 90 feet long and weighs 577,000 lbs or 261,720 kg. the diameter of the drive wheels are 6'1" or 1.85 m. It carried 10,000 gallons of water and 17 tons of coal. I'm actually off to Jasper and then down the ice fields parkway to pick up const. equipment from a job site and then taking it to Sparwood. @blakewdec it's pretty cool cuz trucks are not allowed on that road but we've got special permits from the Federal Government. 👍👍 ill be taking lots of pics.
