I've been staring at this photo for the better part of the morning. My mom was probably 10 years old or so when she had this school photo taken. Her whole life was ahead of her but it was going to be a rough one. Filled with ups and downs, joy and pain. She would see her parents die and lose a child. She would have another child who needed life-long care. She would suffer through cancer and not win against it. But through all of those things, she was always there for me, always smiling, laughing, hugging and kissing me and my siblings. She loved strangers almost as much as she loved family. Pain and suffering did not define her life, the way they did her death. In the end, I know that heaven welcomed her like this wide-eyed 10 year old girl in my frame. And I'm sure there was lots of hugging and kissing.
