Jettisoned apart from the Source once fused.
.
Life is transitory with safe margins. .
Binary stars know this dance. Opposing orbits to the infinite Truth.
.
And so we glide in the here and now. Our life streams pierce the turbulence. .
Propelled by tailwinds of a deceiving calm.
.
Gaze up from your earthly bounds to see the contrails of lives in parallel. The ones meant to be glow from the distant sun.
.
And slowly recede to the end horizon of fused beginnings.

Not all the fallen heroes carried guns.
.
Some carried books.
.
They knew education was the real liberator of the repressed.
.
As a child, your mind and eyes opened wide to the worlds beyond. You cradled the books of wonder. Lost in their stories of great civilizations known for the archeology of their enlightenment. In art. Literature. Music. In their civics.
.
It was this gift of learning that set you on your young journey. To live in these worlds. To experience a life rich with purpose.
.
A stoic tree stands tall against the darkened sky.
.
Wrapped in ribbons of quiet white.
.
The color of angels.
.
While a world away, a child looks up from her cradled book. Her sullen eyes brighten.
.
It is you our fallen hero. Our soaring angel.
.
It is you who has won the war.

Silence glides across still waters. The reflection brings symmetry to wings. And promise of early spring.
At times, in solace, we live winters. The measured chapter of passing years. And fleeting moments lost forever.
Perhaps that is why we look south in anticipation. Knowing we can capture new beauty if we focus on really seeing.
Or maybe we admire their sense of always knowing true north. Wishing that inner compass for ourselves.
Their arrival gives rise to a new horizon. The cycle of life and flight of dance.
In silhouette against the copper sky.

Listen vigilantly to the horizon. It signals our destiny.
For we are always on the edge of the new frontier. The outpost between experiences lived and a future to behold.
What we choose to hear frames new models of possibility. Or reinforces the weathered construct of our fears.
When we become receptive to new signals, we widen the narrow bands of beliefs. We elevate to the liberating strength of our diversity. And collective hope for humanity.
And only then can we filter out the static emitted by those still wrapped in their flags.
For what we choose to hear signals where we stand. And where weβre going.

Hello. Thanks for your message. I'm happy that you appreciate what I wanted to say as it was quite personal & difficult to express. I see, not only from your pictures that you're an artist as well. My posts may appear random & often "weird" but that's not so. If there is no "story", emotion or message to impart, I can't post. I'm very happy to be following your journey in photos. @_suz4nne_
Yay!
Every corner comes to a point.
Some have arrows.
Arrows that take us other places. Or just take us away from ourselves.
But in every direction there are roads to learn. New corners to turn.
Have you ever looked down and noticed how some corners look like arrows themselves?
People rushing on wings of cement. Most following the arrows of others.
Maybe we need to follow the arrow pointing back at us. Illuminating our true north. The road less travelled. Or not at all.
And we'll know soon enough if weβre following it. We start seeing the signs.
The ones that keep us driving through the night. Into the translucent beauty of dawn rising over the desert.

@glenn_raines
@divakaya True that.
It was on a train in 1924. The music played back to you in the steely rhythms of the tracks. Tracks that ran like ribbons of the ivories you played to earn your keep.
You were the young composer. A "song plugger" in Tin Pan Alley when destiny crossed your path. Asked to create the musical kaleidoscope of America. And who best but you. A son of New York. The kaleidoscope of the melting pot. Made of immigrant dreams. And so there breathed the rhapsody. The extended melody of contrasted movements. Like the cultural mosaic that gave texture to the city.
Jazz had to be played strictly in time so one could dance. So said the critics and the high brows. But on that premiere in Aeolian Hall it was the opening wail of the clarinet. The opening to the rhapsody that changed all that forever.
For on that night you answered the question, "What is Jazz?" by simply scrawling on the orchestraβs scores, "Wait for the nod."

The road was miles away from the backwoods. Stark white and silent in winter. A view to reflect. To take measure. Quiet snow.
And then the light appeared. A rectangle aura of warm gold. Shimmering on the edges. At first I felt fear. And yet, I was drawn to where I had no definitions. No earth bound answers.
And there in the connected beauty of all things, I waited. Ready to welcome.

This room is your temple. The Gods of jazz breathe deep from its walls. Billie. Lena. Miles and Ella. Brubeck. The lonely sirens. The soulful horns. The ones who have their moments. But you thread the constant. The downbeat. From lead-in to whispering end. To the silence that stills time.
Your fingers strum the tones that vibrate our bones. That remind us of who we are. The primal dancers of centuries past. We move in rhythm to the tribal fire. We know this.
The votives flicker down to final call. When this temple pulsates a deeper red. And still your head stays down. The keeper of the rhythm. The pulse of life.

She had made a career out of chasing a future with a past. Never living in the moment. Never breathing in life's fleeting, precious gift of now.
It was like any other business travel day. Boarding the flight, oblivious to others. Harried to send one more email before lift off. And then she closed her tired eyes.
The intercom startled her. The captain calmly said, "Brace." And then there was silence. Eerily floating silence over the George Washington Bridge. Infinite silence to reflect on birthdays missed. Anniversaries missed. Always scheduling βI love youβ for later.
And in a flash there she stood among the living. On the floating wing of a jetliner in the icy cold Hudson. She could see the fast approaching rescue ferry. Yet it seemed to pause. To give her time to meet life.
In that instant she connected to the epiphany of what matters. To the strands of bright lines emitting from her being. Tethered to the boundless sky.

Arturo's grandfather came north from Nogales to work in the lettuce fields of central California. He wanted a better life for his family. Hard work and fair rewards were a blessing. Arturo's father followed in his father's steps. As did Arturo.
When he started his own family, Arturo found work at a landscaping company closer to home. He manicured the grounds of the large estates worlds away from his.
During the holiday season, Arturo worked longer hours pruning back the tall pines that graced the mansions. Soon to be draped in Christmas lights. He would carefully trimmed around the decorative wicker dear grazing in place on the grand lawns. The days were long, but the extra money helped.
It had been a long day when Arturo pulled up in front of his house. It was then that he noticed how the Christmas lights in the window were like a warm beacon against the stark winter night. And how their warm glow overcame the long dark shadow cast by the corner street pole.
As Arturo opened the front door he was greeted by the familiar smell of fresh baked BuΓ±uelos. His wife looked up, smiling from the small kitchen. And his two little girls ran over to never let go of his waist. His hands caressed their hair. The calloused hands of his father and of his grandfather. He smiled and quickly wiped away tear. He was home.

The spotlight is not her realm. That place of mortal celebrity. Rather, she creates her art on the shadow's edge, between the light and the dark. Where twilight casts soft definitions for others to give form.
Oh how they wish to have her gift. Yet, she is reluctant to embrace it herself. For she knows she's merely channeling an infinite truth. Forever harmonic with what is. And what others must know.
Polly Jean you're far from simple as your name implies. As your art, your divine gift of music and sculpture, evolves at the twilight's edge. That other worldly place of intricate complexity by beautiful design. For a brief moment she steps out from the shadows. Reluctant, but with purpose. Into the spotlight of PJ Harvey.

His mind was everywhere else but on Park Avenue that Fall day in 1957. He kept his head down counting anxious steps. He was always running late for somewhere else. But then a brisk gust swept some turning leaves across his path. They led his eyes to where she suddenly appeared. There, in the center of the wide sidewalk along the avenue. She was gazing up at something. He didn't know what it was. It certainly wasn't him.
Yet in that instant. In that moment her essence warmed the wind. And stilled the sounds of the city. He felt they were the last people on Earth. And still, her eyes were looking elsewhere. They would never meet his.
But had she looked over, would he have retreated and look away? Once again denying fate's gifts. So he brushed past her. Close enough to breath her in. To be forever haunted by her allure. Then he melded back into the crowded avenue. Still lost in the city.

It is often said that Las Vegas has two faces: The one before 1978, and the one after. It is the Las Vegas before 1978 I remember fondly as a child growing up in Southern California. My great uncle owned The Monaco, a motor inn located on The Strip. In its place today stands The Venetian.
Our family would drive out from Los Angeles on many weekends. And while my parents were across the street gambling at The Stardust, my sister and I would play in the pool at the Monaco. I'd often look up over the fence at the Desert Inn next door hoping to catch a glimpse of the reclusive billionaire Howard Hughes who lived in the penthouse. In the evenings we'd dress up as a family to go see a dinner show. I'd wear my little suit and tie, sometimes my dad would wear his tux. That's how you rolled in Vegas back then. The mob actually ran classy casinos and enforced a dress code.
When the FBI finally ran organized crime out of Vegas in the early eighties, the place went commercial. Junk bonds were sold to finance corporate takeovers of the casinos and construction of new mega resorts. Some of the original iconic hotels like The Sands, Hacienda and The Dunes were demolished. Their distinctive architecture forever gone. If you want to see a great movie about Las Vegas pre-1980, I highly recommend "Casino" starring Robert De Niro, Sharon Stone and Joe Pesci. The film captures the essence and high stakes drama of that time.

Barneys NewYork began in 1923, when Barney Pressman opened his first store in Manhattan with $500 raised by pawning his wife's engagement ring in order to lease a 500 square foot space at Seventh Avenue and West 17th Street in Manhattan. Barney's Clothes had a big sign with a slogan, "No Bunk, No Junk, No Imitations." Today, 90 years later, Barney still holds true to that slogan by stocking such brands as Yves Saint Laurent, Fendi, Givenchy, Marc Jacobs, Prada, Alexander Wang, Jil Sander, Manolo Blahnik, Thom Browne, Dries van Noten, Diane von Furstenberg, Bettanin & Venturi and Burberry Prorsum.
Apparently pawning his wife's engagement ring for start-up capital forced Barney to work long hours.

The early sixties was a wonderous time to come of age in America. There was liberating creativity that swept across art, music and fashion. The space race was on and it drove innovation that is the genesis of many of the technologies we use today. Perhaps it was the threat of the Cold War that propelled us forward, knowing time wasn't on our side. Yet, we were inspired to believe that anything was possible when we put our minds to it. Even in defeat and tragedy, we would endure with mutual respect and dignity. Not divisive rhetoric. It was a brief moment in history personified by the understated grace of the Princess of Camelot.

I'm fascinated with the origins of ancient symbols. Like architecture, they serve as a looking glass into the great empires, cultures and societies long vanished. I wonder how future archeologists a millennium from now will piece together our story. What symbols will we leave behind for them to fuse our puzzle. Will our symbols have symmetry or will they be conflicted? The cycle of once great civilizations is never ending. And true enlightenment that brings peace and balance to the human condition seems always just out of reach. Borders, flags and fear sees to that. At best, and at minimum, connecting to our inner spirit allows us to connect to our greater humanity. That which is greater than ourselves. Doing that in the here and now is within our power. And can shape the symbols from which future generations can learn. And hopefully evolve towards a more enlightened path.

I like the unintended, but welcomed consequences from this image. The original features the delicate nature of a tree turning in Fall. The sweeping angle of the Aon skyscraper rises in the background. The symmetry of man and nature, unfortunately more in peril than in balance these days. The branches of the tree, in symmetry, create the cracks in the facade.

@kismetiscalling Thank you.
I was walking by an Art Deco period building in the downtown Chicago Loop when I noticed the intricate design of the metal tiles lining the vestibule. Architecture reflects the society and culture of its time. How grand and regal it must have been. And perhaps a stoic nod to the Depression years.

@aslam_tafour Thanks for stopping by Aslam. Much appreciated.
@roseknowsall
Fantastic image I am living in Chicago presently are you?
@glenn_raines
@roseknowsall Thank you, yes I am here in Chicago.
@trirahayu
I love all the musing stories you wrote here..and talking about Art Deco there are still plenty of the buildings of this era in my hometown Bandung, Indonesia. They're the heritage from Dutch Indies colonials in 1920s with the aim to make this small beautiful town the paradise for the elites or becoming the Paris van Java.
@glenn_raines
@trirahayu Thank you and that is really interesting information about Bandung! Many architectural marks left by imperialist colonists around the world. Thanks for the substantive comment. Happy New Year.
@friscott
This is beautiful Glenn!! @glenn_raines
@glenn_raines
@friscott Thank you, it's quite unique in its symmetry design. Appreciate the comment.
The centerpiece of Millennium Park in Chicago is the Jay Pritzker Pavilion, a bandshell designed by Frank Gehry. The pavilion has 4,000 fixed seats, plus additional lawn seating for 7,000; the stage is framed by curving plates of stainless steel, characteristic of Gehry.
The construction of the pavilion created a legal controversy, given that there are historic limitations on the height of buildings within the jurisdiction of the greater Grant Park area. To avoid these legal restrictions, the city classifies the bandshell as a work of art rather than a building.

@sugarama
I have not checked those out for marketing yet. Item of the digital pieces that I have in display were printed on aluminum with a high gloss finish through imprints- they are amazing. I have another piece being printed on bamboo right now, can't wait to see how it turns out! Have u used imprints for marketing? Instacanvas? Other?
@glenn_raines
@sugarama Cool, I like the idea of aluminum media. I'm looking at iPrints store for set up. But you need multiple sales channels (as you know) to make it a go. iPrints has a bamboo mounting option as well.
@sugarama
Yes, that is where I am having the bamboo piece done as well. They are great to work with!
@glenn_raines
@sugarama Nice to hear. I'll let you now how it progresses. First thing for my effort is to enhance the resolution quality through an extrapolation software so mobile photography can deliver quality print enlargements.
@sugarama
Which software are you referring to?
@glenn_raines
@sugarama OnOne software suite had a module you can buy as a standalone app or plug in to Photoshop. The module is called Resize.
@sugarama
Awesome, thanks! Have a terrific day!
@glenn_raines
@sugarama You too, let me know if you do anything with the software. The price is a reasonable investment to improve resolution quality for market prints.
The challenge in shooting The Bean -- Chicago's famed sculpture -- is to capture it a bit differently than what has been done before. While this image is somewhat similar to other night shots of The Bean, I dialed down the contrast to give just s hint at its outer contour shape. But what struck me the most was its eye piercing the night, staring right back at me.
