When teaching the boys, often I describe tree bark as skin to a tree. In a way, protecting what is inside. Yet, so much can penetrate it. This specific tree fascinates me. What a lovely example of how there can be so many layers of surface before reaching the true core. How do we try to protect ourselves? Do we open ourselves up to others and let them see our core? Or, do we put on many layers and hide ourselves? Lessons in every nook and cranny.
