Kate I wish so that you and your mom weren't on this journey. I wish that you didn't have to learn these lessons so early in life. But you are gaining strength and knowledge. My brother died when he was 32, leaving behind 4 children and a very young wife. We all learned that you must live in the present, that there is no tomorrow. Love big, love hard. You are one amazing young woman and your mom did a great job. Hugs! And thank you for reminding us all how precious life really is.

Wow. I'm floored. Long comment coming up so bear with me. First of all, I'm glad you were able resuscitate your mom. I can't for the life of me imagine how I'd react in that kind of situation. Just unbelievable. I will definitely pray harder for her and you than I have already been doing. Secondly, while I understand the "little things" are what's making you sad, it should be the little things that make you happy now. Don't look at things as if she's passed. Take advantage of the time you have with her now. Appreciate it and cherish it. Don't let the negative thoughts of death cloud the good memories you can still be making with your mom as we speak. She is still alive. For that, be thankful. I trust you will not squander this opportunity and will in fact make the most of it. You have to. Save the worrying for if/when those moments come, but don't let them rule your life. Let your mother's time here on Earth, however long it may be (and we hope it's long) be as happy as you can make it. She deserves it. If it helps matters, a distant relative of ours was diagnosed with terminal cancer at around age 30. Inoperable. Doctors thought it would be best to not operate and just let nature take it's course. She was given 3 months to live. She's still alive today. And this was 50 years ago. Miracles do happen. If you believe they can. And last, always remember you are not alone in this fight. I'm sure I am not the only IGer in your corner, and as I've said before, this place is great when you need a pick me up. We're all here for you whenever you need us and whenever you need to talk, to vent, whatever, you know how to reach me. This is not just for you, but anyone reading this right now. IG can be so much more than just pictures and likes. That's why I joined. And also, I always thought of you as an old soul. I was surprised to find out you're 24. I'm 25. I always thought you had me by at least 5 years. Emotionally, I guess you do. Keep fightin', Kate. We're rooting for you and Julie.

24 Years ago, my Mom gave me life.. three days ago, I gave her life, when I revived her with CPR on our kitchen floor. Just moments after I had come home from buying her Mother's Day present, she had a seizure, collapsed, stopped breathing and didn't have a pulse. It was the most terrifying, yet most rewarding moment of my entire life, saving hers. I would imagine me seeing her take that first breath on the kitchen floor must've felt something like what she felt when she saw my sister Christine and I take our first breaths when we were born. @katecolumbia .... Your blog post was heart breaking and eye opening at the same time. I've known how fragile life is from an early age and lost lots of family tragically young. That big cliché ...every day is a gift...never sets in until its too late normally. I think if you make it to the end, look back and have no regrets, you did pretty damn good. Just my two pennys. This past Monday, my Mom and I went to see her oncologist to discuss the results of her latest CT scan. It was positive news, that the cancer hadn't grown or spread. On the way out of her office, the oncologist told my Mom, "Enjoy your life." When we got out to the car I started crying. She asked me what was wrong, I told her that I was disappointed that her cancer hadn't gone away and that as I had been sitting in that office, all of the painful memories, every bit of bad news we had heard over the past eight months had overwhelmed me, and no matter how hard I tried, I couldn't hold back my tears. She hugged me, and told me she was happy with the results and that she was finally starting to feel better and more like herself again. She told me she was going to take the doctors advice to enjoy her life. I told her I loved her and we went out and had ice cream together. She was smiling, laughing and teasing me like she always had prior to her becoming sick. She pointed out to me that she had even been smiling in the appointment with the oncologist, something she had never done in months past. I wrote this down last night as I was lying in bed next to her, so I could read it again and again, on the most challenging days in my life to come. I wrote this and wanted to share it as a reminder to myself and everyone to enjoy your life, no matter what your circumstances may be.
