Exactly one year ago today I adopted Bibs. Prior to that for a year she was the most challenging foster I had ever had. She was originally slated to be euthinized before I said I could take her in, she was supposed to stay two days. Two years later she is sleeping on my bed currently being cleaned by a cat.

The days I pull dogs from shelters are such bittersweet days, knowing dozens are on death row but I can only leave with one is very hard for me, but while I was there I met a wonderful, selfless woman. She volunteered her time to come in and spend time with the dogs slated to be euthanized…so their last hours were not spend in a cement kennel, instead their last hours are spent fetching a ball, having their bellies scratched and being loved by someone. I told her that she has my utmost respect for what she does and I think it is so honorable and amazing. She told me that she is unable to foster or adopt currently, she is dead broke and has to stay with friends here and there while she tries to find a job and this was the one way she could give back. It is humbling to meet someone who has so little but still makes the effort to do so much. Proof there is always something more you can do in this world.
